Agree as information transmission over dependencies

چکیده
In contemporary Minimalism agreement is the result of a syntactic operation. contrast to Merge, Agree does not build structure, its role being transmit morphological features from one head another. We provide an alternative perspective on in Minimalist idiom, that cuts ontological pie different way. Syntax has as only operation and agreement, now divorced syntax, transfers purely information along channels established via feature checking. Separating structure building seems enable more elegant descriptions even complicated phenomena.

Information Dependencies Et Veritas Information Dependencies
This paper uses the tools of information theory to examine and reason about the information content of the attributes within a relation instance. For two sets of attributes, an information dependency measure (InD measure) characterizes the uncertainty remaining about the values for the second set when the values for the rst set are known. A variety of arithmetic inequalities (InD inequalities) ...
متن کاملVisual adaptation as optimal information transmission
We propose that visual adaptation in orientation, spatial frequency, and motion can be understood from the perspective of optimal information transmission. The essence of the proposal is that neural response properties at the system level should be adjusted to the changing statistics of the input so as to maximize information transmission. We show that this principle accounts for several well-d...
متن کاملFunctional Dependencies and Incomplete Information
Functional dependencies play an important role in relational database design. They are defined in the context of a single relation which a t all times must contain tuples with non-null entries. In this paper we examine an extension of the functional dependency interpretation t o handle null values, that is, entries in tuples that represent incomplete information in a relational database. A comp...
متن کاملExploiting Low-rate Information for Transmission over Unknown Fading Channels
We consider the transmission over an unknown frequency-selective channel of two independent sources with different characteristics: one source (such as voice) has a low information rate with a strict delay constraint; the other (such data) has a high rate but without any delay constraints. We assume that, due to the delay requirements, the low-rate source must be decoded first and below a certa...
